If the flooring has a covering in which an adhesive has been used like in tiles, then the bonding may become weak with deposits of dirt and grease. So, to protect the floor, you need to clean it.
Stains are quite normal on the garage floor. Regular cleaning of your garage may not be enough for stubborn stains. You may have to give special attention to clean them. Apart from the cleaning products, there are some other chemicals that can be used. Here is a list of some commonly used cleaners that will yield better results.
Trisodium phosphate (TSP)
Trisodium phosphate (TSP) is effective on oily stains on concrete flooring. Make the stain wet by pouring some water on it, and leave it for a few minutes. Add TSP over the wet surface, and keep it untouched for half an hour. Then, scrub with a brush, and rinse thoroughly with water.
This chemical is very harmful so you should handle it with care. Wear safety gear like gloves, goggles, and special clothing to protect yourself. Do not let the rinsed water drain out through a storm drain.
Spread some cola on these marks, and allow it to settle on the stains overnight. Make a mixture of dishwashing liquid and water in a container and rinse the stained areas with it. Then, wash off with clean water.
Baking soda, or an absorbent powder like sawdust, can also be effectively used to remove spots. If it is an oily spot, apply the powder directly on it; if it is dry, make it damp and then put the powder on it. Leave it for some time, and then wash properly.
How to Clean the Floor
Prior to the use of any cleaner, sweep the floor with a stiff broom to get rid of the loose dirt and debris from the surface. Sprinkle a generous amount of cleaning products or solvents on the surface. There are special cleaners available in hardware stores that you can use in order to achieve a good cleaning effect.
If the stain is too stubborn, you have to scrub the surface with a brush or scrubber. Then, wash off using a pressure washer. It is best for cleaning garages, as the force of these washers is very high. They exert considerable pressure on the surface, and as a result even severe and old stains are washed off.
A steam cleaner is another good option. Once the rinsing is done, allow the surface to dry completely. If required, repeat the cleaning process once again.
Concrete floor is the most common in garages. It is even more difficult to remove paint from concrete than from mat or tile, as its porous surface tends to absorb the greasy substance, thereby staining it permanently.
