Stink bugs can be a real nuisance with their offensive smell. Here are some tips to get rid of these bugs from the house.
Stink bugs are insects that secrete a foul-smelling liquid, when they feel threatened. Otherwise known as shield bugs, they have shield-shaped bodies and an offending smell. There are different species of stink bugs that are found in various parts of the world.
A commonly found species is the brown marmorated stink bug, that has a brown, marbled exoskeleton. Most of the stink bug species have dull body color, like gray and brown. You may also find black-colored stink bugs with blue, red, and orange marks.
There are some green-colored species too. Their body color helps them in camouflaging. Even the foul smell is a part of their defense mechanism. Some of the species are found as pests, as they feed on crops, like tomatoes. Stink bug infestation of the house can be really annoying.

Stink Bug Control

Usually, stink bugs are found outdoors. During winters, they stay inside holes in the ground. Sometimes, they manage to gain entry into the house, where they overwinter. You may not find these insects in your house, till they come out in the spring.
Usually, stink bug infestation in houses occurs during winters and spring. Though they do not damage the interior, these insects release an offensive smell. They may also inflict bites, if you try to handle them. Here are a few simple measures to get eliminate stink bugs from the house.
● A practical method to get rid of stink bugs is to use a vacuum cleaner to suck them up. Check all the cracks and crevices in the house, especially those in the basement and walls. Flushing is the best method to dispose off these insects.
● Some people use soap water solution to kill stink bugs. All you have to do is to spray the solution on these insects.
● Make a nicotine infusion by soaking some shredded cigarettes in water, overnight. Strain it and mix a small amount of dish soap. Spray this solution on stink bugs. As the soap covers the insects, nicotine in the solution poisons and kills them.
Make sure you protect yourself from exposure to nicotine. If you use this solution on tomatoes and other plants; ensure that you wash the crops, before consumption.
● You may also use sticky traps and light traps, as these insects are attracted to light. You may opt for chemical repellents, but chemical pest control is best done by professionals.
Adopt a multipronged strategy that includes regular vacuuming, along with use of repellents and other such measures. This would be the best method to get rid of stink bugs in the house. You can prevent stink bug infestation, by sealing the entry points to the house. 
You have to take care of the cracks and crevices, apart from the windows, doors, and other such openings. You may also spray chemical repellents outside the house, during the fall. This may prevent migration of stink bugs to the interior, during the onset of winter.
