Utility Tips on How to Flawlessly Clean Corian Countertops

Effectively cleaning your Corian countertop can preserve its attractive look for many years. Read this article to learn about cleaning such countertops.
The most unique feature of Corian countertops is that they are made up of synthetic, acrylic-based material, but mimic the appearance of natural stone. This material is hard, durable and non-porous. Due to all these exceptional qualities, Corian countertops are widely used in bathrooms and kitchens. They are available in a wide range of colors and designs. Owing to its non-porous surface, maintaining these countertops is not too difficult. However, they are susceptible to damage due to scratches and heat exposure.

How to Clean Corian Countertops

Corian countertops are exposed to dirt, grease, water stains, and chemical spills regularly. There are a number of cleaning methods that can be used to clean this debris. They are as follows:

Method #1: For normal cleaning, use a mild liquid dish washing detergent. Take a tub of warm water and add a few drops of soap in it. Dip a sponge or any other nonabrasive piece of cloth into this soapy solution and rub it over the surface of the counter. Then rinse it off with clean sponge and water. Finally, wipe off the water and pat the surface dry.

Method #2: To clean tough and greasy stains, an ammonia-based cleanser can be safely used on these countertops. Spray a generous amount of the cleaner on the surface and rub it with a clean, dry towel. Then wash off with warm water. Lastly, soak up all the excess water with a dry towel or cloth.

Method #3: If you are looking for a more intense cleansing routine, then baking soda is an excellent option. First of all, sprinkle dry baking soda on the counter. Follow it with spraying warm water. Take a damp sponge and rub it so that the thick paste of baking soda is evenly spread on the countertop. Keep it untouched for 15 minutes and then clean it up with a wet piece of cloth.

Method #4: To remove ungainly water stains, you have to take the help of a commercial product for cleaning the area. These cleaning products are specifically formulated for Corian surfaces. Before using them, read the guidelines provided by the manufacturer. Apply the cleaner on the stubborn spots and let it stay for around 30 minutes. Then wipe it off thoroughly with a clean and dry paper towel.

Method #5: Strong chemicals have a damaging effect on these surfaces. So, if some chemical spills occur accidentally, you must wash it off with plain water as soon as possible. The longer you allow the chemical to stand on the countertop, the more damage it will cause to its surface.

Maintenance of Corian Countertops
  • Do not keep any hot utensils on such countertops, as heat can melt the surface.
  • Always use a cutting board while cutting vegetables or any such items on the countertop to avoid scratch marks from appearing.
  • Do not let any heavy object drop on the surface, as dents or cracks may develop.
  • The countertops should be disinfected with the help of bleach at least once in a week to keep them germ-free. Prepare the disinfectant solution by mixing equal quantities of bleach and water.
Some people install Corian sinks to match their countertops. These sinks can be cleaned using the same techniques. Always avoid using any cleaner containing strong chemicals on a Corian counter, as it can cause severe damage to its surface. Even window cleaners are not suitable, as they leave behind a thin film of waxy residue on this surface which makes it unattractive.
