Though you can always bask in the sun to get a tan, the use of tanning beds has become increasingly popular these days. However, one must make sure that these beds are kept clean. This article provides instructions for cleaning these beds.
The regular upkeep of a tanning bed becomes essential to keep elements like dust and dirt at bay so as to maintain hygiene. The bed should be checked for human residues like hair strands or bodily secretions after each usage. In a public salon, keeping the tanning bed always clean and presentable should be followed as a principle to avoid complaints from the customers. Keeping it sanitized on a regular basis generates goodwill from its users. The UV rays that pass through the tanning lamps are hindered by the clogged dirt and dust particles settled on it. The same is true in case of fans, trays, and other parts.
Cleaning
The first step that should be taken is to take off the tanning acrylics and clear plastic sheets that cover the lamps. Then, take out the lamps and clean the reflector with the help of a clean damp cloth. The reflector is the component that reflects the UV rays on the body. Having it thoroughly cleaned will fetch optimum performance. Clean the lamps and bulbs properly and place them back correctly by referring to the user manual.
The next step is to clean the ballast tray. The tray-holder which is found under the bed holds all the electrical components, and all these components require maintenance. Even though this part is under the bed, it requires regular care. Open up the ballast trays every few months and use a vacuum cleaner to suck out all the dust.
The cooling fans are found on the canopy, bench, and the ballast trays. The fans must be kept dust-free to function properly. These fans can be cleaned the same way as the rest of the bed.
Besides cleaning the fan, the ballast tray, reflector, and lamps, it is advisable to inspect the internal components after each usage. Check if there are cracks on the glass and sanitize the goggles after every use. Maintenance is an expensive affair, however, the benefits reaped from it is definitely worth the effort.
Several tanning bed cleaners are available in the market. Some of available cleaners include:
- Lucasol One Step Disinfectant
- Ultra Clean Tanning Bed Cleaner
- Novus
- Power Kleen
It is a misconception that the ultraviolet light can sanitize the bed. Make sure that you clean the bed after every use. Since the ultraviolet rays can get obstructed due to the dust and dirt, make sure that you keep the tanning bed clean.
